A sound sense of self is the ultimate prize in my aging game. When I often think back to my 20s, I immediately transcend to an immaturity that allowed the expectations of others to infiltrate my personal style in hopes of making them more comfortable. It was a vulnerable age in which external approval held some weight, but I’m so grateful that with personal growth quickly came the abandonment of that. I finally found the utmost comfort in expressing my style exactly how I wanted to and not in any way that I was expected to.

Too often I notice society prefers to box women in to a standard they deem acceptable, especially as it pertains to age and how that’s conveyed through what we wear. Style that is true to you and transcends any age is the epitome of “age appropriate” if you ask me. My sense of style is a feeling and mood that varies on any given day. There are things you will find me consistently reaching for — menswear, vintage finds, conceptual and structural design — no matter what age bracket I approach. Identify what resonates and speaks to the core of who you are and let that lead in defining a style that grows and evolves with you. From there if the age appropriate question ever attempts to creep in, the answer will always be YES.
What I Wore: Ganni Trench, past season (I often get asked my biggest advice for splurging on investment statement pieces, and I am a big believer in never waiting to find something you think you need. Stalk sale season and keep an eye out for those unique and special pieces that tug at your heart strings so you can snatch them up at half or more off the retail price! I am least concerned with having items of the moment in the moment and more so with building a wardrobe that I love and will continue to for years to come.)
